Find answers to commonly asked questions about staking here

What is Staking?

Poker staking is the act of one person putting up cash for a poker player to play with in hopes that the player wins. The player will then use the money to play in a poker tournament or ring game. Any profits are split on a predetermined percentage between the backer and the player. A backed player is often known as a "horse".

What does Pokerstaking.com do?

Pokerstaking.com provides a forum for both players and stakers to come together and make staking deals. This is not a place where just anybody can come on and expect to be given free money. We intend on building strong relationships between staker and player that are built on trust. Everyone is welcome to join and start participating in the action. Pokerstaking.com will act as a mediator in any kind of dispute and will help settle any problems stakers and players might have.

Is there a charge for staking or being staked?

Joining as a staker is 100% FREE. If you wish to join as a player you must have a positive ROI% on sharkscope or thepokerdb and pay membership fee. This membership fee goes to supporting the site. It also goes to show the commitment of the player. We have found that players are less likely to roll stakers if they have made this commitment.

How do I know I won’t get ripped off?

No system is foolproof. Spend some time in the forums, get familiar with the players and the staking process before sending out stakes.

I’m interested in staking players, what should I do?

Read our staker how-to’s for complete info on placing stakes.

I’m interested in getting staked, what should I do?

Read our staking how-to’s for complete info on getting staked. Do not head for the forums and start begging for stakes – that’s the quickest way to ensure that you don’t ever get staked on Pokerstaking.com.

The player lost the stake, do I get my money back?

Unfortunately, the way stakes typically work is that if and when a stake is lost, the player is not required to pay the stake back. Pokerstaking.com is in no way responsible for reimbursing stakers who staked a player who has lost. Stakers stake at their own risk. Many staking agreements on the site have “cake” or makeup agreed to in the terms. “Cake” is on the next time the player is staked by this staker the player will pay back all losses before splitting profits.

Someone offered a stake but tells me I have to sign up at a site through his link in order to get it. What do I do?

This is what we call an “affiliate stake.” The staker who is offering a stake like this is essentially spamming his affiliate links to poker sites that he promotes so he can get paid a greater sum or money than the money he is lending out. Pokerstaking.com will not permit this on these forums. This will not be a place where affiliates can spam others into signing up at their site. It would be appreciated that if any member sees this type of stake being offered that they notify any of the admins here.
